Sparking Innovation Through Tech + Art: Join Our Mission!
At Tech Turn Up, we believe in the power of technology and art to inspire creativity, innovation, and change. This past fall, we hosted an unforgettable Tech + Art Hackathon series, bringing together over 40 youth from underserved communities across Washington, DC. Through hands-on learning, mentorship, and teamwork, these young innovators explored the exciting intersection of tech and art, tackling real-world challenges while building critical skills.
Hackathon Highlights: A Journey of Growth and Innovation
Our 5-week hackathon series kicked off with interactive workshops at local schools and Boys & Girls Clubs, leading to a high-energy final competition at the Filmore Art Center. Students engaged in activities like:
3D Printing, technical fabric design, and podcasting.
Collaborative brainstorming and prototyping with mentors.
Tackling social challenges like social media influence and community engagement.
A special Indigenous People’s Day Hackathon, hosted in partnership with Accenture, gave students an unparalleled opportunity to connect with industry professionals and spark new career aspirations.
The Impact: Empowering the Next Generation
The results of our hackathon series speak for themselves:
92 students signed up, with 40 actively participating across sessions.
Over 52% of participants expressed greater interest in tech and art after the program.
Students from Wards 3, 5, 7, and 8 came together to explore, learn, and innovate.
Creative prototypes emerged, showcasing the limitless possibilities when tech meets art.
One parent shared, “The kids were engaged and learning how to make meaningful change using technology. Please keep me updated on future events!” This feedback fuels our mission to inspire more students in underserved communities.
